  • Audio conferencing on a Definity phone system

Definity phone systems were the last PBX systems that were designed by Avaya in the late 1970s. Earlier, this system was designed specifically for commercial use in hotels and large business houses. But technological advancements and modification made it suitable even for smaller businesses, having the need for 50-250 connections. This reduced the expenditure incurred by these smaller companies on their communication facility due to the fact that it was a simple and uncomplicated phone system.

With globalization and the growth in the scope of business activities, needs of organizations, that were working on Definity phone systems, also started increasing. New technologies, like voice mail, audio conferencing, video conferencing, etc were developed, thereby casting a shadow of doubt on the adaptability of these new systems. However this phone system, developed by Avaya proved to be highly compatible and adaptable to the growing needs of an organization.

Audio conferencing has been one technology that has changed the way business houses communicate with their important members. Accessories like a soundstation have further enhanced this style of communication. Audio conferencing allows companies to have a simultaneous conversation with two or more individuals. This is especially useful due to the fact that operations of a company have spread across borders, thus increasing the need to integrate and efficiently run the business.

Avaya understood the importance of conferencing and designed products, like a SoundStation, that were easily compatible with the PBX systems. The conferencing products that were manufactured by Avaya could easily be attached to this system through normal analog phone switches. This eliminated the need to purchase additional equipments to attach audio conferencing equipment with the phone system.

The introduction of a soundstation in audio conferencing has enabled everyone in the conferencing room to hear the conversation, thus removing the constraint of wearing headsets. Not only can everyone hear the conversations, but also get involved in the conference while sitting at their places. These equipments can easily be attached to an analog phone line without any extra attachments, thus improving the quality of audio conferences in organizations that were working on an analog PBX phone system.

Thus we can see that a Definity phone system is easily conducive to audio conference, thereby assisting in enhancing the way organizations communicate with the outside world. Moreover, these systems also help an organization in minimizing their expenditure on communication by easily embracing new technology and removing the need to purchase new equipments every time a new technological advancement takes place.

  • Future of video conferencing systems

Video conferencing systems were introduced because there was an urgent need by companies to cut down on their ever increasing traveling cost. Due to globalization, companies in one country had to maintain relations with clients, members and stake holders located in other countries. Thus there was a frequent need to travel to different locations.

The first response of companies to this need was the installation of business phone systems like KSU and KSU less systems with advanced features like voice mail systems. These improved connectivity, but were still not able to solve the basic problem of time and resource consuming meetings.

The solution came with the introduction of the revolutionary VoIP technology. Video conferencing systems working on this technology were able to transmit high quality audio and video over the internet, thus facilitating an efficient virtual meeting. This system, when integrated with advanced phone systems offering voice mail systems provided an excellent platform for organizations to leverage their strengths.

Recent advancement in conferencing systems has led to the development of desktop video conferencing, which is an effective tool used by small and medium scale organizations due to its affordability. All that is needed to avail of this facility is a computer, a camera and microphones. Through multipoint video conferencing, it is possible to involve any number of members in the conference, thus enhancing its effectiveness.

Desktop video conferencing has been made even simpler to use for personal use by service providers by making available free software on the internet. This software, once downloaded on a Personal Computer, facilitates a live video conference to any part of the globe. Thus it has been made easy for people to remain connected with their family members who live in different locations.

The latest advancement in the field of video conferencing systems is the introduction of video email technology. This is similar to voice mail systems in the sense that it allows video clippings to be sent to another computer system, where it gets stored for future use. Thus even if there is no one on the other side, it is still possible to convey a video message.

Thus we can see that desktop video conferencing has evolved a lot ever since its inception. This is due to the fact that companies have realized the importance of installing an effective conferencing solution to stay in constant touch with its clients, members and other important stakeholders of that organization.
